River Record Stories

At the same time I was writing for the Keene Sentinel, I also took over all the writing for one of their small, weekly papers - you know, the sort that covers local Ladies' Auxillary Quilting Bees? I covered several small towns in New Hampshire and eventually found some really off-beat stories. Here are a few of the more interesting ones:

*Frying Pan: This was an interesting little story about my search for the origins of an odd frying pan that I picked up in a second-hand store and the fact that reality is sometimes more prosaic than I'd like it to be.

Violet Ray #9: One of my goals in writing for the River Record was to either find unusual stories that haven't been written about before, or to look at something old in a new way. This was a little like the frying pan story in that it was about a found object. A really weird found object.

Notes From The Dump: This was an interview that I did with Terry Ward, the editor of Notes From The Dump, a highly rated independent zine.

*Yardsale: This was a short piece on an annual community yardsale held by the town of Charlestown, New Hampshire with a brief discussion of the unwritten rules of "yardsaling".

*Road Kill: A fascinating slice of life (no pun intended) story on an unlikely topic. (Note - Not surprisingly, this story was edited down to almost nothing when it finally appeared in print. In retrospect, that makes sense.)
